A tweet from President Trump mentioned that protests would be occurring on January 6th. This protests escalated into a barrage of supporters forcing entry into the Capitol Building at approximately 1:30PM. Protestors climbed walls, broke windows, vandalized property, and took selfies, candid of engagement with police inside the Capital and inside the rooms of the building. Politicians were inside finishing the count of the electoral votes. Even with prior warning, the Pentagon stated there was a decline for assistance from the
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer pleaded for help from the Maryland police, stating “the U.S. Capitol Police was overwhelmed, that there was no federal law enforcement presence.” Mayor Muriel Bowser of the District of Columbia, expressed her disapproval of the heavy-handed federal actions over the summer in response to Black Lives Matter protests.
